Chromebooks

Chromebooks

Do you think having the chromebook helped you in learning?

A chromebook helps me and gives me a lot of information whenever I research on  it. I find out lots of things by searching things up in the internet.

What new learning did you experience in working with the chromebook?

I learn to use new applications like video notes and sketch pad. I also learn to use animations in power points, in google docs and in google drawing.
I learn how to use book trailer websites too.

George's Marvellous Medicine

George's Marvellous Medicine
George’s marvellous medicine is all about a boy that has to take care of his grandma. His grandma is very bossy and tells George to do everything while she just sits on her chair the whole day. His mum and dad told him to give grandma medicine. When he gave his grandma tea she said to add more sugar all the time. When George had to make the medicine he put lots of things in. Grandma asked George what he was doing, but George would not disclose to his grandma what he was doing.

My favourite part is when George fed the medicine to his grandma. I liked it because the grandma grew and grew until the top of the house.

I recommend this book 8-11 years old. I rate it 8-10 because it is a quite long chapter book and also because it has quite small words on each page.

Deforestation

Deforestation
Imagine how it would be with no trees, Oxygen, fruits or veggies?  People just cut down trees if its just for 1 single building? Deforestation can make us die because we won’t have any more oxygen to breathe in.

If people cut down hundreds of trees everyday. We humans can be affected with lung diseases. We can die from all these lung diseases we might have. It can also affect the animals that are in that area because animals also breathe in oxygen.

People cut down trees to make farmlands, furniture and roads. It is not useful just for farmlands. Why can’t they make it in an open space?
Most of New Zealand’s trees are gone because people are making it into furniture .

It can be solved by, not cutting lots of trees on the same day and grow more trees. People can also make private places so that they can’t cut down trees in that area.

Fruit flies

As I drive pass Mt. Albert to pick up my sister, I see a big sign that says “ Beware you are in the fruit fly area”. What will be the effects to the resources of New Zealand?

Fruit flies harm lots and lots of our fruits and veggies. That is called contamination. The economy of NZ will go down. The biosecurity is not safe because that is how fruit flies get into New Zealand.

The horrible fruit flies get to pass New Zealand’s biosecurity lots of times because they are very tiny. The money will go down if the fruit flies infest all the fruits and veggies. Fruit flies can give us diseases and we can die from the diseases.

We can get rid of the fruit flies by spraying insecticide or by making fruit fly traps.

The plight of the sea turtle

Plight of the sea turtle
Screenshot 2014-11-19 at 10.40.34.pngSea turtles have been living for more than 100,000,000 million years but now they are almost extinct because people are killing them!! People are buying and selling them illegally. That is called black market. The people litter by throwing plastic in the sea and lots of sea turtles can get caught in plastic and it will cause the turtles to die.

Is there any solution to the plight of the sea turtle?
If the people don’t kill sea turtles they will be able to live longer. The turtles can cover themselves with their shell. They can go to a place they can be camouflage and protect their babies from predators that are hunting them down.

Fun facts!!!!
  • Turtles are reptiles

  • They live in hot temperature oceans
  • They live in the pacific ocean
  • The turtles are cold-blooded
  • Sea turtles are endangered

Lunch time at Mary Mackillop center

Lunch time at Mary MacKillop center
Mmmm! We are sitting on the grass eating my lunch with my friends. We are at the Mary Mackillop Center it is our school’s 60th diamond jubilee!

Our school have to sit under a tree because it is very sunny. Rangitoto is just across Mission bay beach. The sun is as bright as 10,000 light bulbs. I can see Ben jumping on the trampoline! I feel the wind blowing on my face. I smell the sweetness of the drink the sisters are giving us. The sisters are very kind. I can see Fr. Peter sitting on the bench. This was the best view I've ever will see in my entire life.

I say it is my best lunchtime of my life!!

My homework

My homework
I am in my house doing my homework (spelling and reading) with my grandad. My grandad is helping me read my Paul Jennings book and do my spelling on the couch.

My grandad says “you are doing great in your spelling”. He is reading my book now. There are so many books in my grandad’s house. In the lounge my grandad has lots of comfy pillows. He has books for adults, teenagers and kids like me. They are nicely ordered from adults to children. My grandad says  “this is an interesting book” and I say “ thank you grandad”. When grandad is turning the page he asked me “do you know this word?” I reply “ yes it is marvellous!” My grandad has a big and fancy piano near the door to his bedroom. I say in my head “wow that is cool!” My grandad has to finish the book before I go back home to my mum and dad because I have to tell my teacher that I finished the book yesterday. My grandad only has one more word to say but then I hear the doorbell ring.

I have to go home now, but luckily I have finished my book. I say to grandad “ bye see you tomorrow after school at three o’clock!” I turn towards the door and say “Hi mum and dad.”

Soccer

Soccer
I play for a soccer club (8 yrs) and I always talk to my coach before the game if I am nervous. I will play in three kings today. I will play with my other teammates in my club.

I feel a little nervous that the team I’m going to play against is going to win. So I will talk to my coach. The coach says“why are you still here” and I say  “ I want to talk to you about the game and I am a little nervous”. I with the coach and start talking. The field is a bit wet so the people might get dirty. I am not yet changed to his uniform. I smell the grass that just got mowed. The bench is creaking while I sit. The field was quite big for their size but it is small for the coach’s size. I am saying that I am nervous because their team is hard and they are top of the table. The coach says I’m not nervous because I believe we will win. “What is our strategy we are going to do?”.We are going to do counterattack in the first half and we are going to do an offside trap in the second half’.   We are surrounded by green leaves and some trees. There are so many birds chirping on the ground. I can hear the leaves swaying in the air. “ I say “I need to get changed now” and my coach says “okay see you on the field”.

As the coach said he believes that they will win so we won 3-0.

Luis Suarez banned for 4 months

Luis Suarez banned for 4 months
Luis Suarez has stopped playing soccer for 4 months because in the FIFA World Cup he bit an Italian defender on the shoulder.

The ban was passed when they established that he was guilty. The penalizing law takes him out of the incoming league the English Premier League. Luis Suarez couldn't play for Uruguay for the next few games. He was the best striker in Uruguay and banned for 4 months. He would miss out playing with his teams but happy to be with his family. Luis Suarez was the one that scored the 2 goals against England. FIFA charged Luis Suarez $112,000 dollars for biting the Italian defender.

Blue lobster caught

Blue lobster caught
One day this girl went fishing and she caught a blue lobster. The girl was 14 years old and lives in America. That lobster is a very rare on.

The lobsters are usually very dark blue, greenish and brown but this lobster is fully blue. The girl was on her dad’s boat and pulled out the lobster out of one of their traps. The people on the boat put the lobster there so it will not escape. The lobster has a genetic change which has given its special and unusual colour. The lobster is going to be given to the head state aquarium and that is where it is going to live.

Science showcase

Science showcase
What happened yesterday?

Yesterday we went to room 1, 6, 5, 4 and 3 for a science showcase. In room 1 they had a toy propeller the wind would blow and it will spin fast. In room 6 there were ipads and you put things together like water and fire and they make steam. In room 5 there were batteries and wires and if you put the battery in and put wires in the light bulb holder the bulb will glow. In room 4 I looked in the microscope and saw the kiwi super close! In room 3 there was a voltametre that measures how strong your battery is.
Did you like it or dislike it and why?

I liked it because I like looking at experiments that have not seen and to learn more things about science.

What did you find interesting?

What I found interesting about the battery experiment in room 5 was that they only needed one battery for the experiment.

Did you learn anything new?

I learnt that the voltametre measures the strength of the battery.

Would you like to have one of this next time?

Yes I would want one next time because it was fun.

Cows

Cows

When cows give birth they lie down or stand up. When calf pops out they stand up straight away. The calves try to drink the milk from the mother's udder. When a calf is born they get put in a warm shed with other calves. In the shed they get hungry. The calves are greedy because they want to be first and want more milk than them. When cows grow older they nibble on grass. They feed more grass than milk. They also need fresh water.

Little calves grow small horn’s. Their horn’s are cut by hot iron. They have injections so they don't have sharp horn’s. The farmers keep the best dairy cows for milking. They are called heifer. Cows can produce 20,000 liters of milk a year. The male cows are slaughtered.

Trip to Kaitaia

Trip to Kaitaia

It was a cool day, the sun shining and the wind was blowing gently on my face. Mum said “get ready kids.” So I woke up and got ready to go to kaitaia. My mum was making tuna salad sandwich. Dad was also still getting ready for the trip. I got my bag and said to myself “I’m ready.”But some of my brothers and sisters were not ready yet. So I went to the van with my dad and I put my bag down on my seat. Then I went back to the house and helped my mum and dad. Then I helped my brothers and sisters. When we were finished we went to the van all together and went off to Kaitaia.

It was a very nice trip.

Butterflies

Butterflies

There are some strange insects in the world. One strange insect is a butterfly.

Butterflies protect themselves by finding a plant called the ongaonga leaf nest plant. This Plant is  spiky and poisonous. Butterflies migrate in winter because it is too cold for them. They have different colours on their wings like white, orange, blue and other different colours. They are like bees  because they collect nectar but they look different. Australian butterflies are usually blown to the sea. The tiny insects are able to get through the spiky hairs but their enemies are big so they can get stung.I think butterflies have a good life.
