Finding China

Finding China

When I went to China I found a lot of new things there.

The school
In schools there are no doors in the toilet but there is only curtains. They use a sprinkler to wipe their bottom and wipe the toilet. Their school starts at 7.00am to 5.00pm. Most of the people at schools come from Shanghai. It was winter and it was freezing.

School work
They need to get ready before 6.30am. The people have 1 hour of homework each night. They studied Science, Maths, PE, Arts and lots more subjects. Each day they had to do a hundred push ups and a hundred sit ups the they had to run around the track fifty times.
Food

For breakfast some Chinese people have buns filled with some vegetables and some meat. For lunch some of them have rice with prawns or sometimes they have pork and some vegetables. Dinner they have soup  some rice, vegetables and meat. When they are cold they drink hot chocolate to get warmer. After they eat a meal they can have fruit like orange, banana or apple but only one each day.

Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was famous for his protest against apartheid and was in prison for 27 years. He was a great leader in South Africa.

Nelson Mandela was born in July 18 1918. He got the nickname Nelson from his teacher from his school. His dad was a chief of the city Mvezo. Nelson Mandela’s birth name is Rolihlahla.

He became a leader in the African national congress. He planned to bomb a certain building and he wanted to make sure that no one got hurt and he went to jail for this. He was released from jail in 1990. Nelson Mandela fought for the black people and for civil rights and equal opportunity.

Nelson Mandela was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1993. His famous speech is “a good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination”.

Cows

Cows

When cows give birth they lie down or stand up. When calf pops out they stand up straight away. The calves try to drink the milk from the mother's udder. When a calf is born they get put in a warm shed with other calves. In the shed they get hungry. The calves are greedy because they want to be first and want more milk than them. When cows grow older they nibble on grass. They feed more grass than milk. They also need fresh water.

Little calves grow small horn’s. Their horn’s are cut by hot iron. They have injections so they don't have sharp horn’s. The farmers keep the best dairy cows for milking. They are called heifer. Cows can produce 20,000 liters of milk a year. The male cows are slaughtered.
