Netherlands

Netherlands

Netherlands is in the west of Europe. Amsterdam is the capital of Netherlands. Their currency are euros. One NZ dollar is equivalent to 0.64 Euros. Their population is around 17 million in 2016.

Netherlands is one of the small countries in Europe. It is next to a big country named Germany. Amsterdam is the biggest city in Netherlands. The size of Netherlands is 41,543 km2.

Dutch people have 3 languages they can speak.  The 3 languages are Dutch, Frisian and Papiamento. The most spoken language is Dutch. Frisian and Papiamento is not that common.

Roman Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist are the religions in Netherlands. The most populated religion is Roman Catholic. Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu are the least populated. Did you know that Roman Catholic is less than 50% populated, yet they are still the most populated religion in Netherlands.

Some popular food from Netherlands are Sate and Stamppot. Sate is a type of barbecue kebab. Stamppot is a type of dish with sausage, nuts, rice and some chili sauce. Stamppot is also a famous indonesian dish.

Football or also known as soccer is the most famous sport of Netherlands although they do not have a football team in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Tennis is the second most famous sport in the Netherlands. They are involved in lots of sports this Olympics but they are not in all.

Netherlands is a wonderful country filled with interesting things. This wonderful country is good and successful in many sports and in the Olympics they will also try to be successful.

                                                                                                                                                                             

Ancient vs Modern Olympics

Ancient vs Modern Olympics

The Ancient Olympics was first played in 776 BC and last played on 393 AD. It took 1503 years for the Olympics to come back. In 1896 the Olympics returned and was held at Athens Greece.

In the Ancient Olympics there were only 7 sports and they are running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, pankration and equestrian. The Modern Olympics have usually 22-28 sports. That is 15-21 more sports than the Ancient Olympics. Did you know that one of the 7 sports in the Ancient Olympics was a mix of boxing and wrestling and it was the sport pankration.

Olympia, Greece was the place that the athletes in the Ancient Olympics played in. Now in the Modern Olympics the games can be held anywhere in the world. The Ancient Olympics was only held in Greece because it was dedicated to the Greek God Zeus. The Modern Olympics is not dedicated to Zeus or anyone and that's why it can be played anywhere in the world.

There was only 1 country in the Ancient Olympics and it was the hosting country Greece. The teams were the cities in Greece. This Olympics 206 countries were able to join. Not only the countries go to the Modern Olympics but even refugees can join. The refugees have their own team.

Clothing was not worn in the Ancient Olympics, they were nude. But now in the Modern Olympics they wear clothes and the women can join the Olympics. The men in the Ancient Olympics were nude so they could show their pride and their strength. Girls were not allowed to join the Ancient Olympics.

The Ancient Olympics and the Modern Olympics are really different and in that 1503 years the Olympics had a big change.

We have been learning about the Olympics so our class wrote a report about the ancient and modern Olympics.

Soccer game!

Soccer Game

Ricky and his teammates were getting ready for his soccer game. Soon, they were ready to play against Steel Magpies A. Ricky was running with the ball, until someone slide-tackles him and it is a penalty. The person from the other team got a yellow card for a bad tackle. Eric is one of Ricky’s teammates and Eric is taking the penalty. Eric shoots, ooh and it is saved by the goalkeeper! It is play on and Ricky gets the ball and dribbles to the goal. It is the 90th minute and Ricky shoots and it's a goal!!!

Alien Invasion

This is a fiction story my friends and I made up. I chose alien invasion for the topic. I wrote this because we were learning how to write a novel. We chose this topic because Alien invasions is a popular kind of fiction story. We brain stormed it before we wrote it.

Alien Invasion

Professor Boom was in the city and he made a cyborg for a man named Jack. Jack was a very smart cyborg but he was very jealous of the people in the city. Every day, Jack would make Professor Boom’s breakfast which had toast and with a cup of milk. When he finishes, Jack would always have a jog around the house.

On the next morning, Professor Boom was waiting for his breakfast for a long time. “Where could Jack be?” Professor Boom said. He got out of his chair and began to search for him. He found him outside looking like an alien and there were a lot of UFOs were destroying the city.

Professor Boom tried to disable Jack’s cyborg part but Jack broke the disable button. People from all around the world tried to destroy Jack but he was too powerful. Suddenly, Professor Boom had an idea. He decided to make a huge and strong robot to destroy Jack and the UFOs to save the world!

The humans tried to defend the city while Professor Boom makes his humongous robot. Later that day Professor Boom made the big robot to destroy Jack and the UFOs. Suddenly the colossal robot starts to fight Jack, the UFOs and the aliens. And its war and its started in the city and the humans started to join the colossal robot. Professor Boom made tech guns, shields and swords for the people in the city.

Finally, the humans and huge robot that Professor Boom made destroyed Jack. Now all of the humans begin to build back their homes. The humans cheer for the saviour of the city, Professor Boom!

Pukeko Report

Pukeko

The Pukeko is a New Zealand native bird. The Pukeko is a diet of vegetables, duck eggs and worms. They usually live in the grasslands. Pukekos are usually aggressive but not always. They look like a parrot because of their colors.

They live in natural grasslands, nests, and sometimes swamps. A Pukeko Nests are usually found in the grass because it is rare for them to go near trees. Pukekos that live in swamps are also known as swamphens. They are mostly found in the grasslands because it's an open space.

These birds eat different kinds of meats and vegetables. They mainly eat, shoots, roots, seeds, and vegetable crops in paddocks clovers. They also eat insects, worms, spiders, small eels, fish, frogs, duck eggs and very young birds. Pukekos are omnivores.

Pukekos are quite aggressive but not always. Pukekos are aggressive when they usually run. Pukekos sometimes get aggressive when people scare them. When they are not aggressive, they either walk or stand still.

These species are almost endangered because of its predators. Their predators are rats, cats, weasels, stoats and hawks. Those predators and eat pukekos Pukeko eggs. These animals continue to eat them they can get endangered.

In conclusion these species are important to New Zealand because it is one of New Zealand's native birds and they have a risk of being endangered. So we have to take good care of them.
